Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Pay Rate: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are seeking compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join schools across Sheffield. We welcome individuals who can establish trusting relationships, recognise the challenges behind behaviour, and provide consistent support that helps students feel secure and participate more positively in education.
The SEMH TA works closely with learners who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing targeted academic, emotional, and behavioural support to help them make meaningful progress.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Build supportive relationships with students who may find mainstream learning challenging
- Guide learners in developing strategies to regulate emotions and manage difficult situations
- Facilitate individual and small-group activities tailored to specific SEMH needs
- Reinforce positive routines, boundaries, and expectations throughout the school day
- Monitor changes in engagement, behaviour, and wellbeing and communicate observations to staff
- Collaborate with teachers, pastoral teams, and other professionals on individual support strategies
SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Understanding of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and their impact on learning
- Experience supporting children with additional, behavioural, or emotional needs
- Confidence responding calmly and appropriately to challenging situations
- Ability to establish trust while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries
- Resilient, patient, and adaptable approach to working with young people
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
