Job Title: KS1 Teacher
Location: Durham
Pay Rate: £140 - £200 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education Newcastle Branch are seeking enthusiastic and adaptable Key Stage 1 Teacher to work in schools throughout Durham. We welcome educators who can create stimulating lessons, respond to different learning needs, and help young pupils develop confidence as they strengthen their literacy, numeracy, and wider curriculum knowledge.

The KS1 Teacher guides pupils through Years 1 and 2, establishing strong academic foundations while encouraging curiosity, independence, positive behaviour, and a lasting enthusiasm for learning.

KS1 Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Plan creative and curriculum-focused lessons for Key Stage 1 pupils
  • Introduce core literacy and numeracy concepts through accessible teaching approaches
  • Differentiate activities to accommodate varying abilities and learning needs
  • Track pupil attainment and use assessment to inform future teaching
  • Foster independence, curiosity, and positive relationships within the classroom
  • Collaborate with teaching assistants and colleagues to maintain consistent learning support

KS1 Teacher Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent teaching qualification
  • Thorough understanding of the Key Stage 1 National Curriculum
  • Experience teaching within a primary or KS1 environment in a school or similar setting
  • Ability to create engaging lessons suited to younger learners
  • Effective classroom management, planning, and communication skills
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
