Salary: £92 – £115 per day
About the School
GSL Education are currently seeking an enthusiastic and caring Early Years Practitioner to join a specialist school in Scarborough. The school provides education for children and young people aged 2–16 with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, with all pupils having an EHCP. The school offers a supportive and highly personalised learning environment, with a strong focus on communication, personal development and helping pupils achieve their potential.
The Early Years setting supports children with a range of additional needs, including Speech, Language and Communication Needs, Moderate Learning Difficulties and Severe Learning Difficulties. The school works closely with teaching staff, support staff and specialist professionals to ensure children receive the individualised support they need.
About the Role
As an Early Years Practitioner, you will play an important role in supporting young children with SEND to develop their communication, learning, social and independence skills. You will work closely with the class teacher and wider team to provide engaging, structured and personalised activities that meet individual needs.
Key Responsibilities as an Early Years Practitioner:
- Support children with SLCN, MLD and SLD within a specialist Early Years environment.
- Work alongside the class teacher to deliver engaging and developmentally appropriate activities.
- Support children’s communication, social, emotional and personal development.
- Use a nurturing and patient approach to build positive relationships with pupils.
- Adapt activities and resources to meet individual learning and sensory needs.
- Encourage independence and develop children’s confidence and life skills.
- Support positive behaviour and help children regulate their emotions.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants and specialist professionals.
- Observe and record children’s progress and contribute to their individual targets.
- Follow school policies relating to safeguarding, health and safety and pupil wellbeing.
Minimum Requirements as an Early Years Practitioner:
The successful candidate will be a caring, patient and enthusiastic Early Years Practitioner who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs. Experience working with children with SLCN, MLD, SLD or other SEND would be highly beneficial.
You should be confident working as part of a team, able to adapt your approach to individual children and committed to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
This role would suit an experienced Early Years Practitioner, Nursery Nurse, Teaching Assistant or SEND support worker with a genuine passion for working with young children with additional needs.
