Job Title: Design and Technology Teacher
Location: Barnsley
Pay Rate: Up to £220 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are seeking skilled and imaginative Design and Technology Teacher for creative schools in Barnsley. We welcome educators who can combine technical knowledge with hands-on learning, introduce students to a range of materials and processes, and create opportunities for learners to solve practical design challenges.

The Design and Technology Teacher develops students’ creativity and technical understanding through practical projects, helping them move confidently from initial concepts to finished outcomes.

D&T Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Plan purposeful D&T lessons that combine theoretical knowledge with practical work
  • Introduce learners to appropriate materials, manufacturing methods, tools, and equipment
  • Demonstrate safe techniques and responsible workshop practices
  • Encourage experimentation as students develop and refine their design concepts
  • Evaluate practical projects and provide feedback that supports improvement
  • Coordinate classroom resources to ensure practical sessions run effectively

DT Teacher Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent teaching qualification
  • Practical experience teaching Design and Technology within a secondary setting 
  • Knowledge of materials, design processes, and relevant workshop equipment
  • Understanding of health and safety expectations within practical learning environments
  • Capability to manage engaging practical lessons across different ability levels
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
