Are you an enthusiastic and dedicated English Teacher looking to inspire students through the power of language, literature, and communication?

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking an English Teacher to work across a range of supportive and forward-thinking secondary schools in York. We are looking for a passionate, knowledgeable, and adaptable educator who can deliver engaging English lessons, build students’ confidence, and help them develop the skills needed to succeed academically and beyond the classroom.

English Teacher Role:

The successful English Teacher will deliver high-quality lessons across the secondary curriculum, supporting students to develop their reading, writing, analytical, and communication skills. We are looking to recruit an English Teacher who can create an engaging classroom environment, challenge students appropriately, and adapt teaching to meet a range of abilities and learning needs.

English Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging English lessons covering language and literature across the secondary curriculum
  • Differentiate teaching and learning activities to support students with varying abilities and additional needs
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback to encourage continued development
  • Promote positive behaviour, active participation, and a strong culture of learning within the classroom
  • Develop students’ confidence in reading, writing, analysis, and effective communication
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and the wider school team to support positive student outcomes

English Teacher Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • Strong subject knowledge across English Language and Literature at secondary level
  • Previous experience teaching English within a secondary school setting is desirable
  • Excellent classroom management, communication, and organisational skills
  • A creative, adaptable, and enthusiastic approach to teaching and supporting diverse learners
  • An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
  • An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
