Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Rotherham
Pay Rate: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term
Could you help young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs feel more settled, understood, and ready to learn?
GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are working with schools throughout Rotherham to find patient and approachable SEMH Teaching Assistant. We are keen to hear from individuals who can build trust with young people, provide steady emotional support, and help learners manage difficulties that may affect their behaviour and education.
The SEMH TA supports students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, helping them manage challenges, take part in lessons, and develop greater confidence and independence.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support during lessons
- Help students understand and manage their emotions
- Encourage positive behaviour and healthy ways of dealing with difficulties
- Support learners who struggle to stay focused or engaged
- Build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries
- Work with teachers and pastoral staff to follow individual support plans
SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs
- Understanding of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Calm and patient approach when dealing with challenging situations
- Good communication and relationship-building skills
- Reliable, supportive, and able to work effectively as part of a team
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
