Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently searching for a patient, resilient, and compassionate Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to work across schools and specialist educational settings in Scarborough.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant who is confident supporting learners with a range of complex needs. You will work closely with teachers, SEND professionals, and wider support teams to provide consistent, personalised assistance that enables students to engage with education and develop essential life and learning skills.

About the Role:

As a Complex Needs Teaching Assistant, you will provide one-to-one and small-group support to students who may have significant learning, communication, physical, sensory, social, emotional, or behavioural needs. You will adapt your approach to each learner, helping them access the curriculum, communicate effectively, and become more independent.

Core Responsibilities of the Complex Needs Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide personalised one-to-one and small-group support based on individual learner needs
  • Assist students with accessing classroom activities, communication, and daily learning routines
  • Use appropriate strategies to support emotional regulation, engagement, and independence
  • Work alongside teachers and support professionals to implement individual learning and support plans
  • Monitor student progress and communicate relevant observations to the wider school team
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and structured environment where every learner feels supported

As the Ideal Complex Needs Teaching Assistant, You Should Have:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with complex or additional needs
  • Understanding of SEND and confidence working with diverse learning, communication, sensory, or behavioural needs
  • A patient, resilient, and adaptable approach to supporting individual learners
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when responding to challenging or unpredictable situations
  • A genuine passion for helping young people develop confidence, independence, and positive learning experiences

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
  • Have recent experience working with children or young people, preferably within an educational or specialist setting
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
