Job Title: Cover Supervisor
Location: Barnsley
Pay Rate: £460 - £650 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term
Could you confidently lead a classroom, keep students focused, and ensure learning continues when their regular teacher is unavailable?
GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are supporting schools throughout Barnsley in finding confident and reliable Cover Supervisor(CS). We are keen to hear from individuals who can take responsibility for a class, communicate clearly with young people, and maintain a calm and productive learning environment across different subjects.
The Cover Supervisor ensures lessons continue smoothly during teacher absence by supervising prepared work, maintaining classroom expectations, and helping learners remain engaged.
Cover Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Supervise classes during planned or unexpected teacher absence
- Introduce tasks and lesson materials prepared by teaching staff
- Make sure students understand instructions and remain focused on their work
- Maintain positive behaviour in line with school policies
- Provide general guidance when learners need help with assigned activities
- Record relevant information about behaviour and completed work for teaching staff
Cover Supervisor Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people
- Confidence managing groups within a classroom environment
- Good communication and behaviour management skills
- Ability to follow prepared lesson plans and school procedures
- Calm, organised, and adaptable approach to different classes and situations
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
