Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Part-Time, Full-Time

Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a resilient, compassionate, and adaptable Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist secondary educational setting in York.
This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant who is confident supporting young people with a range of additional needs and is familiar with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) profiles. You will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide consistent, individualised support that helps students engage with learning and make meaningful progress.
About the Role:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide one-to-one and small-group support to secondary-aged learners, helping them access lessons, manage classroom expectations, and develop greater independence. The role requires someone who can remain calm and resilient while responding to individual learning, communication, emotional, and behavioural needs.
Core Responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant:
- Provide personalised one-to-one and small-group support to students with additional learning needs
- Assist learners in accessing classroom activities and adapting to different learning situations
- Use appropriate strategies to support communication, engagement, emotional regulation, and independence
- Build positive relationships with students while maintaining clear and consistent expectations
- Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to implement individual learning and support strategies
- Contribute to a safe, structured, and inclusive environment where students can develop and succeed
As the Ideal Teaching Assistant, You Should Have:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEND or additional learning needs
- Familiarity with ASC profiles and an understanding of different communication, sensory, and behavioural needs
- A resilient, patient, and adaptable approach to supporting students
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging or unpredictable situations
- A genuine passion for helping young people develop confidence, independence, and positive attitudes towards learning
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working with children or young people, preferably within an SEND or specialist setting
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
