GSL Education Hull Branch are currently searching for a Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist and supportive educational setting in York. We are looking for a patient, adaptable, and committed support professional who is passionate about helping students overcome barriers to learning, develop confidence, and achieve their individual potential.

Teaching Assistant Role:

The successful Teaching Assistant will provide tailored classroom and individual support to students with a range of additional learning needs. We are looking to recruit a Teaching Assistant who is resilient, confident, and familiar with ASC profiles, with the ability to understand individual communication, sensory, and behavioural needs and respond to them consistently and positively.

Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with additional learning and communication needs
  • Assist teachers in delivering personalised learning activities and adapting resources to support individual learners
  • Support students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and other SEND needs, promoting engagement and independence
  • Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and participation in learning through consistent support
  • Monitor student progress and communicate relevant observations with teachers and the wider support team
  • Help maintain a calm, structured, and inclusive environment where students feel safe and supported

Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly Autism, is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with ASC profiles, including an understanding of individual communication, sensory, social, and behavioural needs
  • A resilient, patient, and adaptable approach to supporting young people with diverse and sometimes complex needs
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
  • An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
