Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you a compassionate and resilient Autism Teaching Assistant looking to support KS4 learners with Autism and help them achieve their full potential?
GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking an Autism Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist and supportive educational setting in York. We are looking for a patient, enthusiastic, and dedicated support professional who is confident working with young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and passionate about helping learners overcome barriers to education, develop independence, and make meaningful progress.
Autism Teaching Assistant Role:
The successful Autism Teaching Assistant will provide tailored classroom and individual support to a KS4 group of learners with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). We are looking to recruit an Autism Teaching Assistant who can build trusting relationships with young people, understand individual communication and sensory needs, and work closely with teaching staff to create a structured and inclusive learning environment.
Autism Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide focused one-to-one and small group support to KS4 learners with ASC
- Support students to access the curriculum by adapting activities and using appropriate communication approaches
- Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, confidence, and independence throughout the school day
- Support learners with social communication, interaction, organisation, and preparation for their next steps
- Monitor student engagement and progress, sharing relevant observations with teaching and support staff
- Help maintain a calm, structured, predictable, and inclusive environment that meets individual sensory and learning needs
Autism Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in a school, college, care, or specialist setting is highly desirable
- A good understanding of Autism, including communication differences, sensory needs, and individual learning profiles
- Experience supporting learners at KS4 or within a secondary education setting is advantageous
- Excellent communication, patience, resilience, and relationship-building skills
- A consistent and proactive approach to behaviour support, safeguarding, and promoting student independence
- An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
