Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Rotherham
Pay Rate: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term
Can you help young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs feel settled, supported, and able to take part in learning?
GSL Education South Yorkshire Branchare looking for compassionate and dependable SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA) to work in schools across Rotherham. We welcome individuals who can build strong relationships with young people, recognise when extra emotional support is needed, and provide calm guidance that helps students make progress.
The SEMH Teaching Assistant supports learners with emotional, social, and behavioural needs, helping them develop confidence, manage everyday difficulties, and participate more fully in school.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide individual or small-group support during lessons and activities
- Help students understand and manage their emotions in a positive way
- Encourage learners to communicate their needs and ask for support
- Assist young people with staying calm and focused during challenging moments
- Promote positive behaviour, confidence, and healthy relationships with others
- Work with teachers and pastoral teams to support individual plans and goals
SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs
- Understanding of Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and their impact on learning
- Patient and calm approach when responding to challenging situations
- Good communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to provide consistent support while maintaining clear boundaries
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
