Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Pay Rate: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

Would you like to support young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in developing the skills to manage challenges and succeed in learning?

GSL Education are recruiting patient and understanding SEMH Teaching Assistants to work in schools across Sheffield. This position is suited to individuals who can offer consistent guidance, respond calmly to difficult situations, and encourage learners to become more confident and independent throughout the school day.

The Social, Emotional and Mental Health TA is going to provide focused support for students with emotional, social, and behavioural needs, helping them access learning and develop positive ways to handle everyday challenges.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Support individual learners during lessons and structured activities
  • Help students develop healthy ways to express and manage their emotions
  • Encourage positive communication and relationships with others
  • Assist young people who find changes or classroom routines difficult
  • Use agreed support strategies to reduce disruption and improve engagement
  • Record relevant progress and share observations with teaching and pastoral staff

SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional needs is desirable
  • Awareness of emotional, social, and behavioural barriers to learning
  • Ability to respond calmly and appropriately to challenging situations
  • Strong listening and relationship-building skills
  • Consistent, reliable, and supportive approach to working with learners
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
