Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Pay Rate: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

Can you help young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs feel understood, supported, and more confident in school?

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branchare looking to appoint caring and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to work with inclusive schools in Sheffield. We are interested in individuals who can build positive relationships, understand emotional and behavioural needs, and provide steady support to help students engage with their education.

The SEMH TA works closely with learners who may face social, emotional, or behavioural challenges, helping them manage difficulties and take a more positive approach to school life.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support based on individual needs
  • Help students recognise and manage emotions in appropriate ways
  • Support young people during difficult or stressful situations
  • Encourage learners to participate in lessons and complete classroom activities
  • Use positive strategies to promote appropriate behaviour and social skills
  • Work with teachers and pastoral staff to provide consistent support

SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs in an educational setting or similar
  • Understanding of how emotional and behavioural needs can affect learning
  • Calm and patient approach when handling challenging situations
  • Ability to build trusting and professional relationships with young people
  • Good communication, observation, and teamwork skills
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
