Job Title: Cover Supervisor
Location: Barnsley
Pay Rate: £460 - £650 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are keen to hear from confident and responsible Cover Supervisor (CS) to work with amazing schools in Barnsley. This opportunity would suit individuals who can take charge of a class, communicate clearly with young people, and maintain a focused learning environment when the regular teacher is absent.
The Cover Supervisor provides reliable classroom supervision, ensuring learners understand the work provided and continue with their lessons in an organised and productive manner.
Cover Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Take responsibility for classes during short-term teacher absence
- Introduce prepared work and make sure students understand what is expected
- Encourage learners to complete tasks and use lesson time effectively
- Maintain clear classroom rules and respond appropriately to poor behaviour
- Assist young people with general questions without delivering new subject content
- Leave clear feedback for teachers about classwork, behaviour, and any concerns
Cover Supervisor Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people in a school or similar setting
- Confidence supervising groups in a classroom environment
- Clear communication and good behaviour management skills
- Ability to follow prepared lesson plans and school procedures
- Calm, organised, and adaptable approach to different situations
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
