Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Location: Barnsley
Pay Rate: Up to £220 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are looking to recruit enthusiastic and dependable Teaching Assistant (TA) to work in welcoming schools across Barnsley. We welcome individuals who can work well alongside teachers, support different learning abilities, and encourage students to become more involved and independent in the classroom.
The Teaching Assistant provides practical learning support to individuals and groups, helping learners overcome difficulties and make steady progress throughout the school day.
Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Support teachers with lessons and planned classroom activities
- Work individually with students who require additional guidance
- Lead small-group tasks to practise key skills and reinforce learning
- Help young people understand instructions and complete their work
- Encourage positive behaviour, participation, and independence
- Monitor learner progress and share relevant observations with teaching staff
Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people in a school
- Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification is advantageous
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to support students with different abilities and learning needs
- Patient, organised, and able to work effectively as part of a team
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
