Job Title: Behaviour Mentor
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Part-Time, Full-Time
Start Date: September 2026
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a compassionate, resilient, and proactive Behaviour Mentor to work across schools and educational settings in York.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with behavioural, social, and emotional needs. You will work closely with teaching and pastoral teams to build positive relationships, encourage constructive behaviour, and help students re-engage with learning in a safe and supportive environment.
About the Role:
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will provide targeted one-to-one and small-group support to students who may face barriers to learning due to behavioural or emotional difficulties. Through consistent mentoring, positive reinforcement, and tailored strategies, you will help learners improve self-regulation, confidence, engagement, and relationships with others.
Core Responsibilities of the Behaviour Mentor:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring for students with behavioural and emotional needs
- Implement positive behaviour strategies to encourage engagement and improve classroom conduct
- Build trusting relationships with students and provide consistent encouragement and guidance
- Support learners in developing emotional regulation, resilience, confidence, and independence
- Monitor behaviour and progress, sharing relevant observations with teachers and pastoral staff
- Contribute to a safe, structured, and inclusive environment that supports positive learning
As the Ideal Behaviour Mentor, You Should Have:
- Experience working with children or young people in education, mentoring, youth work, care, or a similar setting
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and behaviour management skills
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach to challenging situations
- Ability to build positive professional relationships while maintaining clear boundaries
- Good organisational skills and the ability to adapt support to individual needs
- A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working with children or young people in an educational or support setting
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
