Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Darlington
Pay Rate: £90 - £120 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

Are you ready to help children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) overcome learning barriers and make positive progress at school?

GSL Education Newcastle Branch are seeking supportive and patient SEN Teaching Assistant to work in schools across Darlington. We are keen to hear from individuals who can respond to different learning needs, build positive relationships, and help young people feel comfortable and involved in their education.

The SEN TA is going to provide focused classroom support, helping learners understand tasks, develop key skills, and become more confident in their abilities.

SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Support individual students during lessons and learning activities
  • Work with small groups that require additional classroom guidance
  • Break down tasks into simple steps to make learning easier to understand
  • Encourage young people to participate and communicate with confidence
  • Help maintain routines that support a calm and organised learning environment
  • Work closely with teaching staff to monitor development and individual needs

SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN is desirable
  • Awareness of different Special Educational Needs and learning difficulties
  • Caring and patient approach when providing individual support
  • Ability to communicate clearly and build positive relationships
  • Reliable and flexible approach to working within a school team
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
