Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Middlesbrough
Pay Rate: £90 - £120 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education Newcastle Branch are looking to appoint caring and dependable SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) to work with inclusive schools in Middlesbrough. We would like to hear from individuals who understand different learning needs and can provide patient, practical support to help young people make progress in school.

The SEN Teaching Assistant works alongside teachers and support staff to help learners access classroom activities, develop independence, and achieve their individual learning goals.

SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support for students who require additional help
  • Assist small groups with learning activities and classroom tasks
  • Adapt instructions and resources to suit different learning needs
  • Encourage young people to communicate and take part in lessons
  • Help learners develop confidence and greater independence
  • Share observations with teachers and SEN staff to support individual progress

SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN in a school or similar setting
  • Basic understanding of Special Educational Needs and different support methods
  • Patient and understanding approach to individual needs
  • Good communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers and other support staff
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
