Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Part-Time, Full-Time
Start Date: September 2026
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a compassionate, resilient, and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to work across schools and educational settings in Scarborough.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will work alongside teachers, pastoral teams, and support staff to provide consistent encouragement, promote positive behaviour, and help learners develop the confidence and skills they need to succeed.
About the Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to students who may experience emotional, behavioural, or social barriers to learning. Through one-to-one and small-group support, you will help learners regulate emotions, remain engaged in lessons, develop positive relationships, and make meaningful progress.
Core Responsibilities of the SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with SEMH and additional learning needs
- Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, confidence, and engagement in learning
- Support the implementation of individual behaviour and learning strategies alongside teaching staff
- Build trusting relationships with students and provide consistent encouragement and guidance
- Monitor student progress and share relevant observations with teachers and pastoral staff
- Contribute to a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
As the Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant, You Should Have:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional learning needs
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A calm, patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to challenging situations
- Ability to build positive relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
- Good teamwork and organisational skills
- A genuine commitment to supporting young people's wellbeing, development, and educational progress
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working with children or young people in an educational or support setting
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
