GSL Education are currently recruiting for an energetic, resilient, and enthusiastic Sports Coach to work across schools and educational settings in York.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals from sports, fitness, coaching, or youth work backgrounds who are looking to transfer their skills into education. While the role is titled Sports Coach, the work is primarily school and classroom-based, with a strong focus on student engagement, behaviour support, and helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

About the Role:

As a Sports Coach, you will work alongside teachers and support staff to encourage positive behaviour, build students' confidence, and improve engagement with learning. Your coaching background will provide valuable transferable skills when supporting learners with different academic, social, emotional, and behavioural needs.

Core Responsibilities of the Sports Coach:

  • Support students in classroom and school-based activities, encouraging positive engagement with learning
  • Build strong relationships with young people through motivation, encouragement, and consistent support
  • Use coaching and mentoring techniques to promote confidence, teamwork, resilience, and independence
  • Support students with behavioural, social, and emotional needs using positive behaviour strategies
  • Assist teachers and support staff with maintaining a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment
  • Contribute to enrichment and physical activities that promote wellbeing and positive student development

As the Ideal Sports Coach, You Should Have:

  • Experience in sports coaching, fitness, youth work, mentoring, or a related field
  • Confidence working with children or young people in group and one-to-one settings
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and behaviour management skills
  • A calm, patient, resilient, and proactive approach to supporting learners
  • Ability to motivate and engage young people from a range of backgrounds and abilities
  • A genuine passion for using transferable coaching skills to support young people's educational and personal development

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
  • Have recent experience working with children or young people in education, coaching, mentoring, or a similar setting
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
