SEND Teaching Assistant

Location: Sittingbourne, Kent

Salary: £93.33++ per day (depending on experience)

Start date: September 2026

Contract: Full-time, Long-term supply

We are currently recruiting for a committed SEND Teaching Assistant to join a large, highly regarded secondary academy in Sittingbourne. This is a full-time, long-term position starting in September 2026. The selected SEND Teaching Assistant will work closely with the school’s established SEN department, providing tailored support to students with a range of additional needs—including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and speech and language difficulties.

The school is a well-established and community-focused 11-18 academy in Sittingbourne, known for its inclusive ethos and excellent support structures for both staff and students.

As an SEND Teaching Assistant, you will be expected to:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group intervention for students with EHCPs across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
  • Assist class teachers in adapting curriculum materials to ensure lessons are accessible for all learners.
  • Monitor student progress, keep clear records, and provide valuable feedback to the SENCO.
  • Uphold the school's high expectations regarding safeguarding, inclusion, and positive behavior management.

To be considered for this SEND Teaching Assistant role, the candidate must:

  • Have previous experience working as an SEND Teaching Assistant or in a similar youth/care support capacity.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of various special educational needs and supportive strategies.
  • Possess strong communication skills, empathy, and a resilient, professional approach.
  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Meet GSL’s safer recruitment background checks.
  • Have a Child Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
