Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Rotherham
Pay Rate: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are seeking supportive and understanding SEMH Teaching Assistants to work in schools across Rotherham. We are keen to hear from individuals who can create positive connections with young people and help learners feel comfortable, focused, and involved in their education.
The SEMH TA supports students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, helping them manage everyday challenges and develop positive attitudes towards learning.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Offer individual support to learners who need extra emotional or behavioural guidance
- Encourage students to express their feelings and concerns in appropriate ways
- Help young people develop simple strategies for managing stress and difficult situations
- Assist learners with classroom activities when additional guidance is required
- Promote positive relationships between students and other members of the school community
- Work alongside teachers and support teams to meet individual needs
SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs is desirable
- Awareness of how emotional and social needs can affect learning
- Calm and understanding approach when dealing with difficult situations
- Ability to listen, communicate clearly, and build trust with young people
- Flexible and dependable approach to working within a school team
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
