Pay Rate: £100 – £125 per day (depending on experience)

Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only

About the Role

A vibrant primary school in South Manchester is seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Autism (ASC/ASD). You will work closely with classroom teachers and the SENCO to deliver structured support, implement visual timetables, and create a sensory-friendly learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for children with ASC/ASD.

  • Use de-escalation strategies and aid communication using PECS or Makaton where needed.

  • Assist in creating tailored visual schedules and movement breaks.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 6–12 months of direct experience working with autistic children or young adults in an educational, care, or support setting.

  • DBS Check: Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the DBS Update Service (or willingness to apply for a new one immediately).

  • Skills & Training: Practical understanding of sensory processing needs, positive behavior support, and basic communication tools (e.g., PECS, Makaton, or visual boards).

  • Qualities: Patience, adaptability, resilience, and a calm approach under pressure.
