Job Title: SEMH Teacher

Contract Type: Temporary, Full Time, Part-Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026
Salary Scale: £34,068 to £52,834 per annum (MPS/UPS)

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a compassionate, resilient, and dedicated SEMH Teacher to work across schools and specialist educational settings in York.
This is a rewarding opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will create a structured, nurturing classroom environment where students feel safe, understood, and encouraged to re-engage with learning.
About the Role:
As an SEMH Teacher, you will deliver engaging and appropriately differentiated lessons to students who may experience behavioural, emotional, social, or additional learning barriers. You will combine strong teaching practice with positive behaviour strategies, helping learners develop academically, socially, and emotionally.
Core Responsibilities of the SEMH Teacher:
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs of learners
- Establish clear routines and positive behaviour expectations within the classroom
- Adapt teaching strategies to support students with SEMH and additional learning needs
- Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to support development
- Build trusting relationships with students and encourage confidence, resilience, and independence
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and support teams to promote positive student outcomes
As the Ideal SEMH Teacher, You Should Have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
- Experience teaching or supporting students with SEMH, behavioural, or additional learning needs
- Strong classroom management and behaviour support skills
- A calm, patient, resilient, and consistent approach to teaching
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- A genuine commitment to inclusive education and helping vulnerable young people reach their potential
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent teaching experience within an educational setting
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
