GSL Education are currently recruiting for a passionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated English Teacher to work across secondary schools in York.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced English Teacher or an educator looking for a new challenge within a supportive school environment. You will have the opportunity to engage students across a range of abilities, encourage critical thinking, and develop their confidence in reading, writing, and communication.

About the Role:

As an English Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, creating a stimulating classroom environment where students are encouraged to express ideas and develop their literacy skills. You will use varied teaching approaches to support different learning needs and help students make strong academic progress.

Core Responsibilities of the English Teacher:

  • Plan and deliver engaging English lessons aligned with the relevant curriculum and examination specifications
  • Differentiate teaching and learning activities to meet the needs of students across a range of abilities
  • Maintain high standards of classroom behaviour and create a positive learning environment
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support academic development
  • Encourage students to develop strong literacy, analytical, creative, and communication skills
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to contribute to students' wider educational development

As the Ideal English Teacher, You Should Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • Strong subject knowledge across English Language and Literature
  • Experience teaching English at secondary level, particularly KS3 and KS4
  • Excellent classroom management, communication, and organisational skills
  • Ability to engage and motivate students with varied abilities and learning needs
  • A genuine passion for English and a commitment to helping young people achieve their potential

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
  • Have recent teaching experience within an educational setting
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
