Job Title: Design and Technology Teacher
Location: Barnsley
Pay Rate: Up to £220 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are seeking skilled Design and Technology Teacher to work with amazing schools in Barnsley. We would like to hear from qualified teachers who can combine creativity with technical knowledge and encourage pupils to experiment, problem-solve, and develop confidence through practical learning.
The D&T Teacher supports pupils in developing design thinking, technical understanding, and practical skills through purposeful projects that connect creativity with real-world applications.
DT Teacher Responsibilities:
- Guide pupils through researching, designing, creating, and evaluating their own products
- Explain practical techniques and the safe use of tools, machinery, and specialist equipment
- Introduce materials, manufacturing processes, and design principles through hands-on activities
- Encourage pupils to test ideas, identify problems, and refine their designs independently
- Assess practical and written work against curriculum objectives and provide constructive feedback
- Maintain safe workshop practices while contributing to departmental projects and enrichment activities
Design and Technology Teacher Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent is essential
- Experience teaching Design and Technology within a secondary school environment
- Strong practical and technical knowledge within relevant D&T specialisms
- Understanding of workshop health and safety requirements
- Effective classroom management, communication, and organisational skills
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
