Job Title: Cover Supervisor
Location: Barnsley
Pay Rate: £460 - £650 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term
Are you confident managing a classroom and keeping pupils focused when their regular teacher is absent?
GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are looking for confident Cover Supervisor (CS) to support reputed schools in Barnsley. We would like to hear from individuals who are confident, adaptable, and interested in gaining valuable classroom experience while supporting pupils’ learning.
The Cover Supervisor takes responsibility for supervising pre-planned lessons, maintaining classroom routines, and ensuring learners remain productive and engaged throughout each session.
Cover Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Introduce pre-set activities clearly and ensure learners understand what is expected
- Monitor classroom work and keep lessons progressing according to the provided plan
- Manage low-level disruption using the school's established behaviour procedures
- Provide appropriate assistance without taking over the role of the subject teacher
- Collect completed work and leave clear feedback for the returning teacher
- Respond flexibly when covering different subjects, classes, and year groups
Cover Supervisor Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people in a school setting or similar
- Confidence supervising groups and maintaining appropriate classroom boundaries
- Clear communication and strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow lesson instructions and established school procedures
- Dependable and adaptable approach to working across different classes
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
