Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Part-Time, Full-Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you a compassionate and dedicated Speech and Language Specialist looking to support young people in developing their communication skills and confidence?
GSL Education Hull Branch are currently searching for a Speech and Language Specialist to work across a range of inclusive and supportive schools in York. We are looking for a knowledgeable, patient, and proactive professional who is passionate about helping students with speech, language, and communication needs overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.
Speech and Language Specialist Role:
The successful Speech and Language Specialist will provide targeted support to students experiencing speech, language, and communication difficulties, working closely with teachers and wider support teams. We are looking to recruit a Speech and Language Specialist who can develop positive relationships with young people, deliver appropriate interventions, and contribute to an inclusive learning environment.
Speech and Language Specialist Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with speech, language, and communication needs
- Deliver or support targeted communication activities and interventions in line with individual needs
- Assist teachers in adapting classroom resources and communication approaches to improve access to learning
- Monitor student progress and maintain clear records of interventions and outcomes
- Promote confidence, social communication, listening, and expressive and receptive language skills
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, families, and relevant external professionals to support student development
Speech and Language Specialist Requirements:
- Relevant qualification or experience in Speech and Language Therapy, Speech and Language Support, Linguistics, Education, or a related field
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with speech, language, and communication needs is highly desirable
- Good understanding of communication difficulties and strategies for supporting language development
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
- A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to working with students with diverse needs
- An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
