Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Part-Time, Full-Time
Start Date: September 2026
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a caring, patient, and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work across schools and educational settings in York.
This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people with their learning and personal development. You will work alongside teachers and wider support teams to provide tailored assistance, encourage independence, and help create an inclusive environment where every learner can make progress.
About the Role:
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will provide classroom, one-to-one, and small-group support to students with a range of learning needs. You will help learners access the curriculum, remain engaged in lessons, and develop confidence and independence while contributing to a positive and supportive learning environment.
Core Responsibilities of the Learning Support Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to help students access learning activities
- Assist teachers with classroom activities and reinforce key learning concepts
- Encourage student engagement, confidence, independence, and positive learning behaviours
- Adapt support approaches to meet individual learning and communication needs
- Monitor student progress and share relevant observations with teaching staff
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment for all learners
As the Ideal Learning Support Assistant, You Should Have:
- Experience working with children or young people in education, childcare, support work, or a similar setting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting learners
- Ability to build positive relationships and encourage student independence
- Strong teamwork and organisational skills
- A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working with children or young people
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
