Job Title: Learning Mentor
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Temporary, Supply, Part-Time, Full-Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you a supportive and motivated Learning Mentor looking to help young people overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential?
GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking a Learning Mentor to work across a range of supportive and inclusive schools in York. We are looking for a caring, proactive, and resilient individual who can build strong relationships with students, encourage positive engagement, and provide the guidance they need to succeed both academically and personally.
Learning Mentor Role:
The successful Learning Mentor will provide targeted pastoral and learning support to students who may require additional guidance with their education, confidence, behaviour, or personal development. We are looking to recruit a Learning Mentor who can act as a positive role model, identify barriers to learning, and work closely with school staff to help students make meaningful progress.
Learning Mentor Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group mentoring tailored to individual student needs
- Build positive relationships with students and encourage confidence, resilience, and independence
- Support students to overcome academic, behavioural, social, or emotional barriers to learning
- Promote positive behaviour, engagement, attendance, and participation in school life
- Monitor student progress and provide appropriate feedback to teachers and pastoral staff
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, families, and wider support teams to promote positive student outcomes
Learning Mentor Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people in education, youth work, mentoring, coaching, or a similar support role is desirable
- Strong relationship-building and behaviour management skills
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational abilities
- A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting young people
- A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
- An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
