Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you a patient and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant looking to help young people overcome barriers to learning and develop their confidence?
GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking an SEMH Teaching Assistant to work across a range of supportive and inclusive schools in Scarborough. We are looking for a compassionate, proactive, and committed support professional who is passionate about helping students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs engage positively with education and achieve their potential.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Role:
The successful SEMH Teaching Assistant will provide tailored support to students who may experience emotional, behavioural, or social challenges that affect their learning. We are looking to recruit an SEMH Teaching Assistant who can build trusting relationships with young people, encourage positive behaviour, and work effectively alongside teaching and pastoral teams.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH and behavioural needs
- Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, resilience, and engagement in learning
- Support students in accessing classroom activities and overcoming individual barriers to learning
- Assist teachers with implementing personalised learning and behaviour support strategies
- Monitor student wellbeing and progress, sharing relevant observations with teaching and pastoral staff
- Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive environment where students feel safe and supported
- SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, behavioural, or emotional needs is highly desirable
- Understanding of positive behaviour support and strategies for promoting emotional regulation
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
- A calm, patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to supporting young people
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
- An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
