Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
Location: Newcastle
Pay Rate: £90 - £120 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL EducationNewcastle Branch are recruiting experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to work with vibrant school in Newcastle. This opportunity is suited to confident support professionals who are ready to take on additional responsibility within the classroom. From delivering planned learning activities to providing targeted interventions, you will work closely with teachers to maintain high standards of learning and ensure pupils receive effective support.

The Higher Level Teaching Assistant takes an active role in classroom delivery, provides focused learning support, and contributes to pupils’ academic and personal development under the direction of teaching staff.

Higher Level Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Lead planned lessons and learning activities for whole classes during short periods of teacher absence
  • Deliver focused interventions to individuals and small groups requiring additional academic support
  • Use assessment information to identify progress and provide useful feedback to teaching staff
  • Guide and support other classroom assistants when coordinating learning activities
  • Prepare appropriate resources and adapt materials to suit different levels of ability
  • Promote independent learning by encouraging pupils to take greater ownership of their work

Higher Level Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • HLTA qualification or equivalent relevant experience within an educational setting or similar
  • Previous experience supporting learning and taking increased responsibility within the classroom
  • Confidence delivering pre-planned activities to groups and whole classes
  • Strong understanding of effective classroom and behaviour management practices
  • Excellent organisation, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
