Location: Newcastle
Pay Rate: £90 - £120 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education Newcastle Branch are hiring caring and reliable 1:1 Support Assistant to work with pupils in amazing schools across Newcastle. This role is ideal for individuals who can provide consistent, personalised support to a pupil with specific learning, behavioural, emotional, or additional needs. Working closely with teachers and SEN staff, you will help remove barriers to learning and enable the pupil to participate more confidently in everyday school life.

The 1:1 Support Assistant provides focused individual support, helping a pupil access learning, develop independence, and work towards academic, social, and personal targets at an appropriate pace.

1:1 Support Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with an individual pupil throughout the school day to provide consistent learning support
  • Break down tasks and instructions into manageable steps according to the pupil's level of understanding
  • Reinforce skills introduced by the teacher through focused activities and regular practice
  • Help the pupil manage classroom routines, transitions, and changes to the school day
  • Promote independence by gradually reducing support where appropriate and encouraging self-confidence
  • Record progress and communicate observations with teachers and SEN staff to inform future support

1:1 Support Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience providing one-to-one support to children or young people is advantageous
  • Ability to recognise and respond appropriately to an individual pupil's learning and emotional needs
  • Calm, dependable, and encouraging approach to providing consistent support
  • Confidence following individual education plans and strategies set by school professionals
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a wider support team
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
