Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Newcastle
Pay Rate: £90 - £120 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education Newcastle Branch are recruiting compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) to work in schools across Newcastle. This role is suited to individuals who are committed to inclusive education and understand that every pupil requires a different approach to learning. Working alongside teachers and SEN professionals, you will provide personalised support that helps learners participate fully in lessons and school life.

The Special Educational Needs TA supports pupils in overcoming individual learning barriers, developing essential skills, and becoming increasingly confident and independent within the school environment.

SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide focused one-to-one assistance for pupils who require additional support with learning
  • Modify activities and resources to make classroom tasks accessible to individual learners
  • Reinforce communication, social interaction, and independence through everyday school activities
  • Assist students during transitions and routines to promote consistency and reduce anxiety
  • Work alongside teachers and SENCOs to follow individual support plans and agreed strategies
  • Document observations and share relevant information to help evaluate pupil development

SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, SEND, or additional learning needs in a school setting or similar
  • Understanding of inclusive practice and the importance of individualised support
  • Patient and attentive approach when responding to different learning needs
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with school professionals
  • Reliable, adaptable, and committed to supporting pupil wellbeing
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
