Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a motivated, resilient, and enthusiastic Sports Coach to work within a specialist secondary educational setting in York.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals from sports, coaching, fitness, or youth work backgrounds who are looking to begin or develop a career in education. Although the role is titled Sports Coach, the position is primarily classroom and school-based, supporting students with their learning, behaviour, and personal development rather than delivering PE lessons alone.
About the Role:
As a Sports Coach, you will work alongside teachers and support staff to provide classroom support, behaviour mentoring, and one-to-one guidance for students with a range of additional needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Your ability to motivate, encourage, and build positive relationships will play a key role in helping learners engage successfully with education.
Core Responsibilities of the Sports Coach:
- Support students within the classroom, encouraging engagement, participation, and positive behaviour
- Build strong relationships with learners through mentoring, encouragement, and consistent support
- Deliver structured physical and wellbeing activities that promote teamwork, confidence, and resilience
- Assist students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs using positive behaviour management strategies
- Work collaboratively with teachers and pastoral staff to support individual learning and wellbeing plans
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment throughout the school day
As the Ideal Sports Coach, You Should Have:
- Experience in sports coaching, fitness instruction, youth work, or a similar role working with young people
- Confidence supporting secondary-aged students with diverse learning and behavioural needs
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and behaviour management skills
- A calm, resilient, and proactive approach to supporting learners
- Ability to motivate, inspire, and build positive relationships with young people
- A genuine passion for helping students develop academically, socially, and emotionally
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working with children or young people in education, coaching, or a similar setting
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
