GSL Education Hull branch are currently looking for a committed Secondary Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist secondary educational setting in York. We are looking for a caring and proactive individual who is passionate about supporting students with a range of additional learning needs, including ASC, and creating an inclusive environment where every learner feels valued and supported.

As a Secondary Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and specialist staff to provide personalised support for students both in and out of the classroom. You will help pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) develop communication, social interaction, independence, and confidence, enabling them to access learning and achieve their individual goals.

Main Responsibilities as a Secondary Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with additional learning needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
  • Assist teachers in delivering differentiated learning activities that meet individual educational and communication needs.
  • Encourage students' social, emotional, and personal development while promoting confidence and independence.
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and support strategies under the guidance of teaching staff.
  • Monitor student progress and share observations with teachers and the wider SEND team.
  • Promote positive behaviour while maintaining a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.

Secondary Teaching Assistant Minimum Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, particularly Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), is highly desirable.
  • A good understanding of autism-friendly strategies and approaches to supporting communication and learning.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • A patient, adaptable, and compassionate approach to supporting students with diverse needs.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
