Job Title: Behaviour Teaching Assistant

Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Part-Time, Full-Time
Start Date: September 2026
Salary Scale: £92 – £110 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a resilient, compassionate, and enthusiastic Behaviour Teaching Assistant to work across schools and specialist educational settings in York and the surrounding areas.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people with behavioural, social, emotional, or additional learning needs. You will work closely with teachers and pastoral teams to encourage positive behaviour, improve classroom engagement, and help students develop the confidence and resilience to succeed.
About the Role:
As a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you will provide targeted support to students through one-to-one and small-group interventions. You will use positive behaviour management strategies to help learners regulate their emotions, remain engaged in lessons, and build strong relationships with staff and peers.
Core Responsibilities of the Behaviour Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with behavioural and emotional needs
- Promote positive behaviour and encourage active participation in classroom learning
- Implement behaviour support strategies and individual intervention plans alongside teaching staff
- Support students in developing confidence, resilience, and emotional regulation skills
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of behaviour and interventions
- Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
As the Ideal Behaviour Teaching Assistant, You Should Have:
- Experience working with children or young people in an educational, youth work, mentoring, or care setting
- Strong behaviour management and communication skills
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting learners
- Ability to build positive relationships and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Good organisational skills and the ability to respond confidently to challenging situations
- A genuine passion for supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working with children or young people in an educational or support setting
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
