Job Title: Behaviour Teaching Assistant

Salary Scale: £92 – £110 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education Hull branch are currently looking for dedicated Behaviour Teaching Assistants to work in secondary schools and specialist educational settings across Scarborough and the surrounding areas. Whether you are looking for flexible day-to-day supply, long-term placements, or a permanent position, we can help you find a role that suits your skills, experience, and career aspirations.
As a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, SEND teams, and pastoral staff to support students who may present with behavioural, social, emotional, or additional learning needs. You will play a vital role in promoting positive behaviour, improving classroom engagement, and helping students build the confidence and resilience needed to achieve their potential.
Main Responsibilities as a Behaviour Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with behavioural, SEMH, or additional learning needs.
- Implement positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies to encourage engagement and emotional regulation.
- Support students in accessing learning by adapting activities and removing barriers to participation.
- Build positive, professional relationships that promote confidence, resilience, and independence.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and families to support individual behaviour and learning plans.
- Monitor student progress, behaviour, and wellbeing, reporting concerns and achievements to the appropriate staff.
Behaviour Teaching Assistant Minimum Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with behavioural needs, SEMH, or SEND is desirable.
- Strong behaviour management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach when supporting students with challenging behaviours.
- Ability to build positive relationships and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
