Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Full-Time
Start Date: September 2026
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a compassionate, resilient, and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant to work within a supportive secondary school in North Yorkshire.
This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and the SEND team, you will help students overcome barriers to learning, improve their emotional wellbeing, and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.
About the Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored one-to-one and small-group support for students who require additional emotional and behavioural guidance. Through positive relationships and consistent support, you will help learners develop resilience, emotional regulation, and the confidence to engage successfully in school life.
Core Responsibilities of the SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with SEMH needs
- Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and active engagement in learning
- Implement individual support plans and behaviour strategies in collaboration with school staff
- Support students in developing confidence, resilience, and positive relationships with others
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and the wider pastoral team
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all learners
As the Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant, You Should Have:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional learning needs
- Excellent communication and behaviour management skills
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting students
- Ability to build trusting relationships and work effectively as part of a wider support team
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to respond positively to challenging situations
- A genuine commitment to improving the wellbeing and educational outcomes of young people
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working with children or young people in an educational or support setting
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
