Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Part-Time, Full-Time
Start Date: September 2026
Salary Scale: £102 – £120 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a confident, adaptable, and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to work across secondary schools in York and the surrounding areas.
This is a fantastic opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, experienced teaching assistants, or individuals with experience working with young people who are looking to gain valuable classroom experience. You will play an important role in ensuring continuity of learning by supervising lessons during teacher absences and maintaining a positive learning environment.
About the Role:
As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes using pre-planned lesson materials provided by teaching staff. You will encourage students to remain focused, manage classroom behaviour effectively, and ensure lessons run smoothly while maintaining high expectations for learning and conduct.
Core Responsibilities of the Cover Supervisor:
- Supervise whole-class learning using pre-prepared lesson plans
- Maintain positive behaviour and ensure students remain engaged throughout lessons
- Provide guidance to students and respond to general classroom queries where appropriate
- Record attendance and communicate lesson outcomes to teaching staff
- Follow school safeguarding, behaviour, and health and safety policies at all times
- Adapt confidently to different subjects and classroom environments as required
As the Ideal Cover Supervisor, You Should Have:
- Experience working with children or young people in education, coaching, mentoring, youth work, or a similar setting
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills
- Confidence leading groups of students in a classroom environment
- A calm, flexible, and professional approach to behaviour management
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to adapt quickly to different school settings
- A genuine interest in education and supporting young people to achieve their potential
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience working with children or young people
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
