Job Title: Learning Mentor

Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Full-Time
Start Date: September 2026
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you a compassionate and motivated Learning Mentor looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people? Do you have the ability to build positive relationships, raise students' confidence, and help them overcome barriers to learning and personal development?
GSL Education Hull branch are currently hiring a dedicated Learning Mentor to work within a supportive secondary school in North Yorkshire. We are looking for an empathetic and proactive individual who is passionate about helping students achieve their academic and personal goals through tailored guidance, encouragement, and pastoral support.
As a Learning Mentor, you will work closely with students who require additional support to engage with education successfully. You will collaborate with teachers, pastoral teams, and families to provide targeted interventions that promote resilience, independence, and positive learning behaviours.
Main Responsibilities as a Learning Mentor:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring to students who require additional academic, behavioural, or emotional support.
- Help students overcome barriers to learning by developing personalised strategies that improve engagement and confidence.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and parents or carers to support individual student progress.
- Encourage positive behaviour, resilience, and strong attendance through consistent mentoring and guidance.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of interventions and outcomes.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where every student can succeed.
Learning Mentor Minimum Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational, mentoring, pastoral, or support role is desirable.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting young people.
- Ability to motivate students and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
