Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic Speech and Language Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist educational setting in Scarborough.

This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people with speech, language, and communication needs. Working alongside teachers and specialist professionals, you will help pupils develop their communication skills, engage confidently in learning, and achieve their individual goals within a nurturing and inclusive environment.

About the Role:

As a Speech and Language Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils with speech, language, and communication needs, many of whom may also have additional learning needs. You will deliver targeted interventions, reinforce communication strategies, and encourage pupils to develop independence, confidence, and positive social interactions.

Core Responsibilities of the Speech and Language Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with speech, language, and communication needs
  • Deliver targeted communication activities under the guidance of teachers and specialist staff
  • Encourage the development of social communication, confidence, and independence
  • Support pupils to access the curriculum by adapting communication approaches where appropriate
  • Monitor pupil progress and share feedback with teachers and the wider support team
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment that enables every pupil to thrive

As the Ideal Speech and Language Teaching Assistant, You Should Have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with speech, language, and communication needs or additional learning needs
  • A good understanding of communication strategies and inclusive learning practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, caring, and adaptable approach to supporting learners
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and families
  • A genuine passion for helping children and young people develop their communication skills and reach their full potential

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
  • Have recent experience working with children or young people in an educational or support setting
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
