Pay Rate: £460 - £650 per week (depending on experience)

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are recruiting Sports Coach to work in active schools across Barnsley. This is a dual-role opportunity that combines Sports Coach and Classroom Support Assistant responsibilities. We are keen to hear from motivated individuals who can transfer the leadership, resilience, and communication skills gained through coaching into a rewarding classroom-based role. While your sporting experience will be highly valued, your day-to-day responsibilities will focus on supporting teaching and learning across the school.
The Sports Coach / Learning Support will play an important role in helping pupils stay engaged, overcome challenges, and develop confidence by working closely with teaching staff to provide effective classroom support and promote a positive learning environment.
Sports Coach Responsibilities:
- Build positive relationships that encourage pupils to participate confidently in lessons
- Deliver tailored classroom support for individual learners and small intervention groups
- Apply coaching techniques to improve behaviour, motivation, and resilience throughout the school day
- Collaborate with teachers to adapt activities for pupils with varying learning needs
- Assist with lesson supervision and help maintain continuity during staff absence
- Contribute to an inclusive school culture where every pupil feels supported and valued
Sports Coach Requirements:
- Experience in sports coaching, mentoring, fitness instruction, or youth work
- Ability to motivate and inspire young people through positive role modelling
- Confidence managing behaviour in structured group environments
- Flexible approach to supporting learning across different subjects and classrooms
- Strong teamwork, communication, and organisational skills
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
To work with GSL Education as a Sports Coach / Learning Support, you should:
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.
- Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
