Pay Rate: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are seeking dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant for reputed schools in Sheffield. We are looking for patient, proactive, and empathetic individuals who can provide consistent support to pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning while building confidence, resilience, and positive relationships.

The Social, Emotional and Mental Health TA will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to create a structured, nurturing environment where pupils feel safe, supported, and motivated to achieve both academically and personally.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Build positive relationships that promote trust, confidence, and emotional wellbeing
  • Implement behaviour support strategies to encourage positive choices and classroom engagement
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and pastoral teams to meet individual learning and behavioural targets
  • Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and unstructured times throughout the school day
  • Monitor progress and communicate observations to teaching staff and other professionals

SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs
  • Calm, resilient, and compassionate approach when managing challenging situations
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to remain adaptable and respond positively to individual pupil needs
  • Genuine commitment to promoting inclusion and pupil wellbeing
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
