Teaching Assistant (TA)

Salary: £14.24 per hour

Are you a passionate and supportive Teaching Assistant looking to make a real difference in students' education?

GSL Education Hampshire & Dorset SEN are seeking dedicated Teaching Assistants to work in schools across Southampton, providing valuable classroom support and helping pupils develop the confidence and skills they need to succeed.

The successful Teaching Assistant will work alongside teachers and other support staff to provide academic, social, and emotional support to students. You will assist with classroom activities, deliver targeted interventions for individuals and small groups, and contribute to creating an inclusive learning environment where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential.

Responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant:

  • Support teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students requiring additional assistance.
  • Assist pupils with classroom activities, educational tasks, and learning resources.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and active participation in lessons.
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Support students with SEND where appropriate by adapting learning activities to meet individual needs.
  • Prepare classroom materials and assist with lesson organisation.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other professionals to support student development.

Requirements of a Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people in a school or similar setting is desirable.
  • CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or an equivalent qualification is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Patient, caring, and adaptable approach to supporting learning.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children's education and personal development.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply via GSL Education.
