Teaching Assistant (TA)

Are you a caring and motivated Teaching Assistant looking for an opportunity to support students in achieving their educational goals?

GSL Education Hampshire & Dorset SEN branch are seeking dedicated Teaching Assistants to work in schools across Bournemouth, providing classroom support and helping to create a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment.

The successful Teaching Assistant will work alongside teachers and support staff to assist pupils with their academic, social, and emotional development. This role involves supporting classroom learning, providing individual and small group assistance, and helping students build confidence, independence, and a love for learning.

Responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant:

  • Support teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with different learning needs.
  • Assist pupils with classroom activities, educational tasks, and learning resources.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and support students' engagement in lessons.
  • Help create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Support students with SEND where required and adapt activities to suit individual needs.
  • Assist with classroom preparation and organisation of learning materials.
  • Monitor student progress and share feedback with teachers.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, and other professionals to support student development.

Requirements of a Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people in a school or similar setting is desirable.
  • CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or an equivalent qualification is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Patient, supportive, and adaptable approach to working with children.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children's education, wellbeing, and personal development.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply via GSL Education.
