1:1 Support Assistant
Location: Sunderland
Salary: £95 - £115 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long Term, Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education Newcastle are seeking enthusiastic 1:1 Support Assistants to work in schools across Sunderland.

The successful 1:1 Support Assistant will provide dedicated support to individual pupils, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. This rewarding role involves working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to deliver tailored support that meets the academic, social, emotional, and behavioural needs of the student.

Responsibilities of a 1:1 Support Assistant:

  • Provide individualised support to a pupil on a one-to-one basis throughout the school day.
  • Assist the student in accessing the curriculum and participating fully in classroom activities.
  • Implement strategies and interventions in line with the pupil's individual education plan (IEP) or EHCP where applicable.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, independence, and confidence.
  • Support the pupil's social and emotional development.
  • Adapt learning materials and activities to suit the student's specific needs.
  • Monitor and record progress, providing feedback to teaching staff as required.

Requirements of a 1:1 Support Assistant:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people in a school, educational, or care setting is desirable.
  • Experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is advantageous.
  • CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or an equivalent qualification is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting individual learners.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
