SEMH Support Worker
Location: Sunderland
Salary: £95 - £115 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long Term, Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education Newcastle are seeking dedicated SEMH Support Workers to work in schools across Sunderland, helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive educational and personal outcomes.
The successful SEMH Support Worker will provide tailored support to students with a range of social, emotional, and behavioural needs. Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams, you will help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where students can build confidence, develop positive relationships, and thrive both academically and emotionally.
Responsibilities of an SEMH Support Worker:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs.
- Support students according to their individual learning and behaviour plans.
- Promote positive behaviour and encourage emotional regulation strategies.
- Build trusting relationships that support students' wellbeing and personal development.
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive learning activities.
- Help students develop social skills, resilience, and confidence.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching and pastoral staff.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals to support student outcomes.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment.
Requirements of an SEMH Support Worker:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional learning needs is desirable.
- Relevant qualifications in Education, Health & Social Care, Childcare, Psychology, or a related field are advantageous.
- Strong understanding of SEMH needs and positive behaviour support strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting students.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
- Genuine commitment to promoting the wellbeing, development, and achievement of young people.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply via GSL Education.
