SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)
Location: Sunderland
Salary: £95 - £115 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long Term, Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education Newcastle are seeking enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistants to work in schools across Sunderland.
The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will work closely with teachers and the SENCO to provide tailored support for pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. Responsibilities of an SEN Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with Special Educational Needs.
- Support students according to their individual education plans (IEPs) and learning requirements.
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
- Promote positive behaviour and encourage students' social and emotional development.
- Adapt learning resources and activities to meet individual needs.
- Support pupils with personal care or mobility needs where required.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and the SENCO.
- Build positive relationships with students, parents, and school staff.
- Help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.
Requirements of an SEN Teaching Assistant:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs is desirable.
- CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or an equivalent qualification is desirable.
- Strong understanding of SEND, including ASC, ADHD, SEMH, and other additional needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, caring, and adaptable approach to supporting students.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Genuine passion for helping children reach their full potential.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply via GSL Education.
